Leaving The Nest
Living away from home, it’s something that you have dreamed of doing! Getting to live a life free from your parents’ watchful eyes, staying up late, and eating anything you want – This is how you picture dorm life. While this can be your ideal dorm experience, it is important to be prepared. When you get sick and there is no one to take care of you, and on the off chance that you become a little bit homesick, make sure that you have a care package ready to go for any situation.
What to Buy
In nearly any tough situation, you are probably going to want a bit of comfort. Food is something that provides instant relief, so always keep a few of your favorite snacks on hand. This can also cure homesickness, should you run across it. Make sure you are also stocked up on painkillers and cold remedies! You may take for granted your parents’ endless medicine cabinet that never fails to make you feel better; create your own so that you are able to battle any illness. Keep something nice as well such as candles or incense to remind you of home. This will make your dorm room feel more like home on days when you need it to.
Stand on Your Own Two Feet
At the end of the day, know your strength. You have made it this far, so keep going! Along the way, you will see what works and what does not work. This is all a part of the journey that every college kid experiences. Whether your parents are a short drive away or a FaceTime call, make time to speak with them for a quick catch-up. Staying true to who you were before you left for college is going to be your foundation for growing up.
